Another Rare Loch Earn Vendace

This is a photo of Britains rarest fish the vendace. This specimen was caught by Paul Nardini from Causewayhead Stirling on the 30th March 2019 and was taken on a ledgered maggot on the South Shore below March Cottage on Ardvorlich Estate. The fish which measured 22½cms from the nose to the fork of the tail was unfortunately not able to be released successfully. The fish was collected by Professor Colin Bean of Glasgow University and taken away for analysis. Coincidently another vendace was caught on the same day by Associate Member Season Ticket Holder John McCarthur from Larbert again fishing ledgered maggot about ½ mile west of the Sailing Club. On this occasion the fish was successfully returned as it was only lip hooked.
